Busways Bus Service 674 Went Off-Track - Who Needs Training?
Imagine that you travel on your bus route and then you notice that the bus driver accidently over passes a turn to travel on the correct route. Well we know that everyone is not perfect and we all make mistakes but how does this happen when the bus driver was a training bus driver and had a trainer on the bus?
Personally, I can not answer this question bua female commuter from Whalan explained that a few weeks ago, it did happen as the bus was heading into Mount Druitt and as it past the the old Whalan High School. Somehow the bus turned around to head back into Gasmatta Crescent, Whalan to return to it's original journey!
So who needs the training?

New Time Tables Not Working For Busways - Solution Provided!
I have just recently heard from a transport spokesperson that Busways bus drivers are finding it difficult to run to the new October 2013 time tables.
Basic reasons for this to occur, is late running services and this is caused by many reasons: bus drivers not provided with a proper rest at the end of each trip, commuters complaining, and also not having the right amount of fares and undeciding of whether they have to get on bus or not.
Keeping in mind these issues and remembering (from previous blogs) that bus drivers are allowed 30 seconds to pick up and drop at each bus stop. If this time is over the time limit, it extends the time of the journey. This results in bus services not meeting with interchange timetables for other buses or any Sydney Trains. So Busways are looking at contingency plans to counter this time table issue they are having. This is a major KPI* on maintaining the contracts on NSW Bus Region 1 for the next 3-5 years.
Solution for this is very easy, in my aspect. When timetables are issued, they should be issued with a flexibility of times of arrival and depart. What does this mean, some of you are saying?
Well, up to now, NSW for Transport in the past have been providing timetables which commuters expect to be exact timetables, especially based on their planned journey for the day. By allowing say for example a '5 minutes flexibility time table' that means services can arrive 5 minutes before or after the designated 'Flexible Timetabled' times. Normally, commuters will arrive minutes before or just as the service is arriving.
By doing this, it takes off the pressure off from bus drivers, Management of Busways, NSW for Transport and there would need to be an educational process to be provided to each commuter (which will also result in less complaints) to worry about being late or early by 5 minutes! Commuters will need to have a better understanding rather than getting frustrated waiting for services.
The other suggestion, would be heading to the right way, providing extra bus services cutting down the waiting time and in itself promoting more people to become commuters, catching public transport buses!
What do think? It is a positive way of fixing Busways dilemma at the moment? Let us know your thoughts, ideas or feedback - this is important for everyone!

Commuter Left Standing - No One Gives Up Their Seats For The Elderly!
Brian from Whalan catches Sydney Trains from Mount Druitt to Central train stations claims from his experience Melbourne has train services every 5 minutes, better on time running service.
On one Sunday the train heading back to Mount Druitt was running 20 minutes late and then announcement was made at Central train station that there was a further waiting time of thirty minutes. By the the time the train arrived, it was chock-a-block full, his wife and himself got a seat.
Standing up on trains is an issue for him, more carriages or more train services required. He is over fifty years no one lets him sit down or even his wife. Young ones should let him and/or his wife sit down. Compulsory publicity should be provided by through the media. IT is just plain old common sense, when he was a kid he was giving seats up for the elderly.

Proper Scheduling Of Buses - Whalan Commuter!
William from Whalan has a choice of catching Busways 755, 764 & 780 buses to Mount Druitt and walks to Mount Druitt TAFE (Technical and Further Education) and return. If lucky, one of his classmates will drive back home sometimes.
Scheduling of buses is important to him as sometimes in the corner of Waikanda Crescent and Luxford Roads, Whalan when 2 buses arrive together. He would prefer if the scheduling of buses were arranged properly to have alternate arrive of buses, which will provide a better choice of servicing, when arriving at this bus stop at different. This will prevent 15 minutes waiting time, if missed both buses.
We invite responses from the community, do you agree? Do you have the same issue that needs to be resolved?

Early Sundays Services, leaves Commuters Behind!
M y daughter and myself met a young lady called Keisha from Whalan as we were waiting for the 780 Busways bus near Waikanda Crescent.
Keisha works five days a week in Penrith and advised that although she arrives at the bus stop early, the bus arrives early at the the bus stop. So Keisha has to then walk across the road, catch the 780 to Mount Druitt and then , train to Penrith which can add 10 minutes to 30 minutes to her total travelling trip and may make her reach work late. As the 780 is an hourly service this is what may cause issues and this hourly service is on Sundays.
She would like to see more 780 bus services that would then increase the commuters to catch more public transport. The trip was great for myself in 1/2 an hour in Penrith, ready for what we had to do. I will use the 780 to get to Penrith from my place from now on when I need to do so!

Busways Management Compliment Busways Customer Service Officer Officer At Mount Druitt
A few days I report how a Busways Customer Service Representative tapped myself on the shoulder, whilst I was talking to a commuter and handed myself a copy of the new bus time table.
He was fully complimented for his service that he was provided not just to myself but continually handing out to other commuters. He said he picked up a box of time table, which he was doing of his own bat - this was his idea. Well it was so good to here that the manager from Busways that reads our blogs acts on our blogs!
Further news as well was yesterday I required a 780 time table for my daughter and myself when I caught the Busways 755 bus yesterday morning at 6.15 on Bulolo Road, I asked the bus driver for this particular time table. Well this morning when I entered the bus the bus driver quickly asked myself if I still required the 780 bus time table, I responded positively and kindly thanked him. I was not prepared for this extra service.
It is good that bus drivers are going out of their way to help commuters, especially if they remember who we are - keep it up.
Have you had any similar situations happen in Mount Druitt or in your local area?

My Story On A Former Mount Druitt Scammer on The Western Line!
I remember years and years ago a young lady pretended
to be a single mother with her 2-3 year old child stating she
needs $10 to stop her being kicked out for unpaid rent. Little
did she know that luckily I didn't believe her story as a
young male followed her as she left Mount Druitt Train
Station - hopped on the 755 bus where I was sitting
opposite, and she pulled out her purse which flash at least
$2,000 of $100 notes. When I stated aloud that she was
running a scam, she and her partner did not say a work as
she also paid concession rates!

Bus Stop Watch Is Requried - Bus Stop Signs - Removed From Ground

Yet a few days later, the bus top has been placed back into the soil loosely but still needs to be secured to the ground. Do you get these type of problems in your bus stop. Maybe we need a 'Bus Stop Watch'! Community awareness program to prevent these type of anti-social events to happen!

Let us know what you feel - all comments welcome!

Delayed Trains Are Better And Free Wi-Fi On Sydney Trains - Same As Provided By Sydney University - Whalan Commuter!
There is always a great chance when I am travelling on the Western Line in Sydney, that I'll meet someone from wonderful Western Sydney. Then there a 50/50 chance that I will meet someone new from with the Mount Druitt or surrounding suburbs area. Lastly, it is a lesser chance that I will pick up a public transport conversation with a commuter living in Whalan.
And that is what has happened!
Joy, a young university student from Whalan has spoken up about important improvements she requires, which will be quite well appreciated by other commuters.
She travels to Sydney University from Mount Druitt to Redfern return with Sydney Trains finds that firstly has normally train delays now once every fortnight as opposed to once a week. Claims she is not a qualified expert, but if she was she would like to see more trains in non-peak times from 20 minutes service to 10 minutes, 'It doesn't matter if it is an all stops service, as feels would be a great demand for this on the Western Line.
On a different issue she advised Sydney University supplies Free Wi-Fi to all students as long and use the student card to use the service. With the Opal Card coming out west, she thinks the NSW Government could look at a similar system for commuters to use free Wi-Fi on trains using details from their Opal Card ( New electronic ticketing System. She cannot see why Both the University and Sydney Trains both run by a Government within Australia and of Australia, why it cannot be brought out on Sydney Trains service.

Bus Stops That Make Buses Stop Over Private Driveways - Blocking Residents From Driving In Or Out!
When NSW for Transport oversee bus stops being implemented, constructed and/or redesigned, which is usually Bus Operator plus Representative from NSW Roads & Maritime Services and Transport officer from Blacktown City Council, there seems to be little community consultation as where a bus stop can be placed.
In saying this, it is imperative that the residents of where the bus stop is being placed is provided great consideration, whilst ensuring the bus stop is in a safe and secure area, that allows direct access to catch public transport buses.
Here, we have an example of bus stops allowing bus to over creep, not only that, the 60 Kilometre sign is blocked when driving alongside the sign post and commuters go inside the property of where the driveway is based, to hide under cover when it rains.
Do you have bus stops like this around Mount Druitt , where buses stop over driveways sometimes blocking residents? Let's hear what you have to say?

Different Strategy To Get To Mount Druitt Bus Interchange/Train Station
Something strange happened on the bus on Monday morning, which I had to ask the bus driver to relief my curiosity. He was asked this question, when we reached Mount Druitt.
Travelling on buses for nearly twenty-three years within and outside of Mount Druitt and this thing never happened to me ever before. I remember in the early days, buses used to wait at the bus stop on Bulolo Drive anywhere from one minute to five minutes and that was for the bus drivers to ensure they are running to 'on time timetables'.
Yet, after leaving my bus stop on the outwards journey to Mount Druitt, the bus was travelling at a speed of approximately 35-40 kilometres. Normally, bus drivers travel the speed limit to reach Mount Druitt bus interchange quicker. So when I asked the bus driver nicely what was the problem with the bus (I thought it was a mechanical issue). he explained that they have to go slower to meet the bus time tables. If they go too fast, they will not be able to pick up commuters on the way to the train station.
Next day, being today, adifferent bus driver drove the normal speed limit this morning of 50 Kilometres!

Polite Bus Driver Apologises
Last Thursday, when I caught the bus going to work in Bulolo Road, Whalan, the doors of the bus kept on flipping open and closed. It was like the automatic switch was keeping on being pressed by the bus driver.
Although I hit myself walking towards the door, the bus driver was immediately politely so apologetic, yet I 'thanked' him (like we all should!). It was like he thought he was directly responsible for the action of the doors, when we all understand, it wasn't done deliberately! Malfunctions of bus equipment should not be directed to the bus driver as this is part of maintenance check ups. Good on you bus driver!

Whalan Community Action Group Supports Mount Druitt Free Shuttle Bus!
I have had support from the Whalan Community Action group from Ivy Roberson, who will request her community to fully support the Mount Druitt Free Shuttle Bus.
Ivy simply said, 'We need it!That is the people of Mount Druitt need it! Ivy's group caters for over 5,000 residents, so I wish her well as she has taken a bundle of petitions to get the community going!
I urge all other community groups to do the same, support it take our petitions and help us get the numbers needed to get the Mount Druitt free shuttle bus launched in Mount Druitt.

A Lot Of Time To Get Home Yesterday!
What a long return trip from Kingsford yesterday!
For personal reasons I had to visit my mother in Kingsford and I am normally used to an average of 2 hours each way when I travel on public transport.
The adventure was with the return trip, where I left her home at approximately 4pm - walked to Anzac Parade, opposite entrance to University of NSW, just missed a bus 395 leaving for Central otherwise known as Railway Square. Next bus was 393 at 4.27pm reached Central 4.50-5pm. I walked to platform 12 to catch the train which read ( on the electronic notice boards), 'stopping to Blacktown, Mount Druitt and then to Penrith.'
Not really checking the time, I think the train departed around 6-6.10pm, as we reached Blacktown there was an announcement made to transfer to platform 6 around 6.50pm to catch another train to Mount Druitt probably 5 -10 minute wait. I reached Mount Druitt train station around 7.10pm and the Busways 758 probably saw the train and departed as I was running down the stairs of leading to the bus interchange. Next bus came at approximately 7.50pm and reached Whalan home around 8.10pm. Total time travel and waiting 4 hours and 10 minutes.
Has anyone else had stories like this they can match please tell us - lucky I wasn't dying of thirst!

Less Smoking Required On Mount Druitt Train Station!
Mohammed from Whalan travels by City Rail train from Mount Druitt to Parramatta, Monday to Fridays and finds something important that needs to be addressed by the NSW Government, NSW for Transport and City Rail.
Mohammed says that commuters smoking in public places like platforms in Mount Druitt, when it is not allowed. As a result, there should be more PA system announcements at Mount Druitt trains Station and its platforms, to deter people from continuously smoking. By ridding smoking from train stations the previous and current NSW Governments has indicated that the health of non-smoking commuters is important and vital. More policing, on platforms not just the vestibule area as the smoking commuter seems to happen in peak times in the morning.
He also would like to see more trains in peak time to allow more commuters to sit down and commute comfortably.

Light Suggestion To Improve Local Public Transport - Whalan Commuter!
A Whalan Commuter whom I have know for many a years, bumped into me and made a mind blowing suggestion and I showed him our Free Bus Shuttle Petition.
Although he advised he will take petition around the area and support, he claims we need a dramatic change in the way public transport is running in all local communities, especially Mount Druitt. It was a form of public transport that is mostly neglected in Western Sydney as there is little or no hope of getting it, the attitude of commuters that would like it.
The idea is simple in thought but complex to arrange and provide the change Looping Light Rail to main Roads on Luxford Roads and Carlisle Avenue and then Luxford Road looping onto Rooty North Road and link to Carlisle Road. Three or four bus routes travelling around suburbs linking to the Light Rail on Luxford, Carlisle and Rooty Hill North roads. And finally the Light Rail linking to Mount Druitt Train Station.
By now I hope you understand what he is asking for and for some it would be multiple modes of transport would the negative to this but the services would be between 5-10 of each other with people leaving cars at home an/or not even purchasing cars at all.
What are your thoughts?
Editors Notes: Would you believe that young Blake Bardowski has created his idea for a Western Sydney and Sydney Light Rail. His proposal is similar in relation to the Light Rail. He thought about this almost 2 years ago - I don't think it should past-over by the NSW Government.

Young Whalan Worker - Didn't Take Job Because Of Lack Of Public Transport In The Western Sydney Employment Hub!
A young new resident of Whalan has recently moved from Old Mount Druitt, commutes by public transport catching the Westbus 780 to Mount Druitt train station and reaches Auburn train station allowing 10 minutes to reach work starting at 6 am.
He claims this is an improvement for himself as he used to work in Punchbowl. He would like to one work in Mount Druitt and one have one mode of public transport.
He remembers a few years ago that he was offered a labouring job in Eastern Creek - near the Western Sydney Employment Hub and didn't take the job up as there was any public transport that he could make him reach there, I suggested he looks up the table for the Busways 723 and that will cover that area now - this bus service only started last year! He took in my advice.
