Mount Druitt Bike Route Number 10 - Blacktown City Council Needs Emergency Maintenance!

Soon I will be purchasing a bicycle and become a part time cyclist,  using it as an exercise option to become fitter with my wife and at time by myself.

I  have been to Blacktown City Transport Forums and  there is discussions about 'The Blacktown City Bike Plan' and the future of  it.  Although, I am proud Blacktown City Council and their Officers discuss these promotions and bike plans there needs to be a sense of urgency to ensure that the tracks/paths the bicycles are riding on are regularly checked every month, so that members of the community can used it.

Check mount Druitt Bike Plan route Number 10 - see what needs to be updated and maintained - maybe a new track should be  organised asap before there accidents. We do not want patch-up jobs - that is cheap and  not proper!

Cyclist Commuter Didn't Realise He Uses Public Transport!

This evening I  met a cyclist that didn't realise that as he commutes - he didn't  see himself as a commuters. He thought a commuter was someone travelling to work on a bike or visiting friends.  From what I gathered, he may be using his bike for relaxation.

So my thoughts may be wrong about the perception of the word  'commuter' - Interesting word - we can also use the word traveller which is a broader used word!

Motorised Cycles Support For Cheaper Transport!

There seems to be a so far, one voice support for motored cycles, which can be promoted as  as a cheap form of transport for the young people as opposed to purchasing cars and paying thousands for insurance (which they can't afford).

This lady commuter from Mount Druitt has wonderful strong support for this form of public transport and believes that this form of transport should not be taken off the road like planned to be done, by the new NSW State Government. She also believes that this form of transport can be used  on all cycle ways planned for the future of Blacktown City Council.

Blacktown City Council 'Bicycle Review Workshop'

Unfortunately, I have declined an invitation to the Blacktown City Council's "Bicycle Review Workshop' due to work commitment.

Yet in saying this, it is  great news to hear that our local LGA in partnership with the University of Western Sydney is currently in process to reviewing Council's Bike Plan, which was developed in 2002.

On 2/11/11, Council is seeking  information from relevant stakeholders, whilst many of the cycle ways proposed in 2002 plan are nearing completion.  This can be a voice for the cycle commuters.

What I have done, is referred my invitation to Deb Robertson to represent us and have also asked a community cycle enthusiast  to attend from the Mount Druitt end. So there people will have an input for the growing cycling community to have better improved   and safe bike way.

Mount Druitt Cyclist With A Commuting Passion!

Here is a Mount Druitt Cyclist who is extremely passionate about cycling and is seeking assistance to have cycle ways within the Blacktown Local Government Area, other than M4 & M7 Cycle ways.  I know other Local Government Associations  do  have cycle ways clearly marked and used properly.

Other forms of public transport respect the cyclist on thee cycle ways and ensure safety to the cyclists!

Cycle To Work Day Today?

Well, I just have been informed it is NSW Cycling  To Work Day today. What a great idea! I missed the boat (Or should I say miss the cycle this year) -I'll see if we can  organise a day this this in Mount Druitt - but I am sure employers should be considerate where cycles can be left for the day.

I probably need the cycling more than others - I'd say I would have to leave at 4am to get to my work 7.30am and is is double time on the way back home for me?

This will be a great idea! maybe we can even have 'Cycling Sunday Funday' around Whalan Reserve etc?

Cyclists With Bike Dilemma In Mount Druitt

Gary, a Mount Druitt cyclist finds cycling a fit way to get to and from work on a daily basis (better leaving the car at home), but has found trouble when an expensive bike he was using was stolen from the Mount Druitt bike rake, outside the train station.

I thought there would be better camera security in this area to make bikes safer and catching the criminals to make this open bike rack safer. the crimes if this happens

He also supports the proposed Mount Druitt Free Bus Shuttle service but has an issue with buses not allowing room for bicycles. Maybe transport stake holders can look into this, promote better and improved public transport!

Do Cyclists Follow Road Rules?

This is what seems to worry myself with cyclists! I don't have any gripes regarding cyclists, in fact I have been a part time cyclist (and I mean part-time cyclist) and have taken bikes on roads or park with full head gear.

Cyclists do not have to have a licence nor are they required to study the road rules - yet they just ride on the roads and sometimes think they rule the road. We even have children riding bikes on roads, criss-crossing, driving on the wrong side of the road and most importantly wrong not wearing the appropriate helmet head gear to protect cyclists with head injuries. I think our group needs to promote and provide public safety awareness to ensure we care of our cyclists as well they care of the community and of other transport.
